End of placement

The beginning of September brings the start of a new year at University for our placement student, Rob Croxford. He has been working with PSL group for the past 16 months and will be returning soon to complete his final year of his BEng Honours degree in Power Electronics and Electrical Engineering. Although we are sad to see him leave and we would like to take this opportunity to praise him on his hard work and commitment to PSL over the last year and wish Rob Croxford all the best in his return to his studies.

Statement from Rob:

“During the last 16 months I have been working at PSL on a placement from university. The reason for this placement was to gain some experience in the field of my studies, Power Electronics.

 Throughout the year I have had the opportunity to work on various projects with PSL and a few of our long term customers. I have also been fortunate enough to meet many of the key individuals that work within this industry and in addition, have the opportunity to travel and attend a few power electronics seminars. I have found that this year away from University has been just as beneficial, if not more beneficial, in gaining a sound understanding of power electronics than my previous two years of study. Of course the placement would not have been as successful had I not had those two years.

Aside from a better understanding of the industry I have gained a lot more confidence whilst working with clients and gained the ability to convey my ideas and thoughts across in an insightful and productive way. It has also reinforced my drive and ambition to work in power electronics industry and ideally my degree specialises in that particular field of the electronics industry.

I cannot thank everyone here at PSL enough for this opportunity and I hope to be able to return after my studies and continue as an employee of PSL.

PSL Group purchases CFD Design package

The start of 2011 brings greater product development and simulation capabilities to PSL after purchasing the latest edition of cf design. This software is the industry standard for any thermal or flow analysis needs. It cuts design time by reducing the amount of prototyping while increasing the level of accurate feedback seen at simulation. Its full integration with AutoCAD Inventor 2011 makes it possible to take any design and create a detailed analysis for both thermal and flow characteristics of any application.
CFD, supplied by Blue Ridge Numerics, was recently acquired by Autodesk, Creating and even stronger tie between CAD and CFD.

PSL now has the capability to run scenarios under all flow conditions, drilling down to chip locations where required and analysing thermal spread, pressure and velocity conditions.With Inventor integrated with CFD we can immediately change the physical conditions of a proposed thermal solution to optimize the cooling conditions to perfectly meet real world conditions.
